Sketching is one of the simplest ways to slow down and see your world with more wonder. A pencil, a sketchbook, and a moment of attention can turn even an ordinary day into something worth remembering. When you sketch, you’re not trying to make perfect art. You’re learning to notice more, feel more, and capture life as it happens.
At Art of Sketching, I guide you through this kind of practice. I show you how to use your sketchbook like a daily journal, unfinished, expressive, and honest. Each page becomes a small story: a walk in your neighborhood, a cup of coffee, a sleeping pet, a scene from a trip. When you build this habit, you begin to see creativity everywhere.
My goal is simple:
Help you feel confident picking up your sketchbook, even on the days when you think you’re not “talented” enough.
You’ll learn practical techniques, mindset shifts, and easy exercises that make sketching feel natural. You’ll start connecting with the world in a more personal way, and your sketchbook becomes a place to explore your curiosity.
Sketching isn’t about finishing a masterpiece. It’s about paying attention. It’s about capturing your life in a way that feels real and meaningful.
About me
I’m Chris Wilson, an artist based in San Diego. I studied Character Animation at CalArts, the Disney founded art school, and spent years working in drawing and animation before turning my focus to sketching in the wild, animals, nature, and everyday life. For more than 15 years, I’ve been helping people build confidence and joy in drawing. Now I share what I’ve learned here, hoping it helps you create a sketchbook you’re proud to flip through.
